Explosive Exploration in Tejo La Embajada

Start Time: 18:00

Duration: 2 hrs.

Toss iron discs at gunpowder targets and join the communal roar of Bogotá’s iconic pastime. Celebrate every explosive mecha with cold beers and local flavors in a space where 500 years of tradition meet contemporary rhythm.

Tejo originates in the high Andean plateaus, an ancestral legacy of the Muisca people that evolves from a sacred rite into Colombia’s national sport. At La Embajada, this sport of the people sheds its rustic exterior for a contemporary atmosphere without losing its raw, communal soul. It is a ritual of precision and celebration, where social barriers dissolve over a shared lane of clay and the steady rhythm of heavy iron hits.

Grip the iron disc, weighing between 400 g (0.88 lb) and 700 g (1.54 lb), and find your stance. The air carries the scent of damp clay and the sharp anticipation of a strike. Aim for the mechas—small paper triangles filled with gunpowder—perched on the edge of a lead-weighted ring. A successful hit triggers a sharp, satisfying explosion that echoes through the hall, followed immediately by collective cheers and the clinking of cold beer bottles. Between throws, the atmosphere is fueled by the aroma of traditional Colombian fare, creating a sensory bridge between the game and the table.

Tejo is more than a sport; it is a manifestation of Colombian identity—vibrant, loud, and deeply rooted in the territory. It represents a living link to the past, brought into the present through the simple, shared joy of a well-timed boom. In this space, memory is not a museum piece but a loud, textured, and rhythmic experience that defines the social fabric of Bogotá today.

Important information

  • Terrain & Physical Demand: Moderate physical demand. The experience involves standing for extended periods and tossing heavy iron weights. It requires a degree of arm strength and coordination.
  • Accessibility: The venue is urban and typically level, but the activity itself requires full range of motion in the arms and the ability to stand near the lanes. It may not be suitable for those with significant mobility restrictions.

    • Casual clothing
  • Dress Code: Casual and comfortable clothing is highly recommended for this active social environment.

Wednesday, November 18, 2026

Breaking Borders - Social Impact Graffiti Tour

Start Time: 10:00

Duration: 3 hrs.

Explore the resilient spirit of Bogotá’s eastern hills alongside former gang members. Walk through steep, graffiti-lined streets where street art and personal memory reveal a profound transition from conflict to a contemporary culture of peace.

Step into the Egipto neighborhood, a district perched just above Bogotá's colonial center, where identity is forged through territory and shared history. Here, the narrative is led by community leaders who once navigated the complexities of gang life but now champion a collective vision of peace. Their voices carry the weight of memory and the clarity of transformation, offering an unfiltered look at a community that defines itself by its resilience rather than its past.

Walk the steep, rhythmic slopes of the eastern hills, where the air feels thinner and the cityscape stretches out below. The texture of the neighborhood is raw—rough-hewn stones, weathered facades, and vibrant murals that reclaim public space. At El Cuadrado, once a site of tension and now a canvas for remembrance, the sight of bold, contemporary graffiti serves as a visual archive. Every mural captures the faces and stories of those who stayed to rebuild, turning narrow alleys into galleries of local heritage.

This experience transcends traditional tourism by fostering genuine human connection through dialogue and shared space. It reveals a Colombia in the midst of profound change, where art serves as a tool for reconciliation and urban renewal. By walking these streets, the significance of local sovereignty and the power of individual agency become clear. It is a testament to the contemporary pulse of Bogotá—a city that continues to heal through memory, art, and community action.

Important information

  • Terrain & Physical Demand: Moderate physical demand. The route covers approximately 2 km (1.2 mi) across steep, cobbled streets and include several sections of stairs at an altitude of 2,640 m (8,661 ft).

A Taste of Change: Food tour to understand the peace process

Start Time: 14:00

Duration: 3 hrs.

Navigate Bogotá’s complex history and contemporary peace efforts through its flavors. Walk the historic center, visit the moving Fragmentos anti-monument, and meet the changemakers using artisanal chocolate and ice cream to rewrite Colombia’s narrative.

Colombia stands at a profound crossroads. After five decades of conflict, the 2016 Peace Agreement marks the beginning of a long journey toward reconciliation and collective memory. This experience invites a deeper look into the contradictions and resilience of a society in transition, framing the political process not through dry facts, but through the lived stories of artists, academics, and chefs who actively build a peaceful future.

Walk along the historic Avenida Jiménez toward the rhythmic heart of Plaza de Bolívar. The crisp Andean air at 2,600 m (8,530 ft) sets the stage for a visit to Fragmentos, an eloquent anti-monument by artist Doris Salcedo. Here, the floor consists of 37 tons of melted weapons from the conflict—a cold, textured foundation that demands a physical encounter with memory. This raw experience transitions into a softer sensory discovery as the route leads to stops featuring artisanal ice creams and exquisite chocolates, each flavor telling a story of hope and agricultural rebirth.

Every bite serves as a testament to the transformative power of gastronomy in modern Colombia. By connecting the territory’s produce with the peace process, these flavors become more than just food; they represent a bridge between a fractured past and a vibrant, shared present. Understanding this change is essential for anyone seeking to grasp the true spirit of a nation that refuses to be defined solely by its wounds.

Traverse the verdant Cocora Valley among towering wax palms and explore the vibrant streets of Salento, where colonial architecture and deep-rooted coffee traditions reveal the resilient spirit of the Quindío highlands.

The Quindío department serves as the heart of Colombia's coffee-growing identity, a region where the relationship between land and labor defines every hillside. Here, the wax palm stands as more than a botanical wonder; it is a sentinel of the territory's history and a national emblem. In the Cocora Valley, this landscape offers a portal into the high-altitude cloud forests that have sustained the rhythm of the central Andes for generations through their dense mists and rich biodiversity.

Walk through the damp, textured soil of the valley where the air feels cool and the scent of ferns prevails. The silhouettes of wax palms rise up to 70 m (230 ft) into the sky, piercing the fog with slender, swaying trunks along a 3 km (1.9 mi) trail. The journey moves from the rhythmic quiet of the forest to the animated streets of Salento. In town, the texture of lime-plastered walls and the bright pigments of hand-painted doors reflect a colonial heritage preserved with pride. The sound of artisanal workshops and the deep aroma of freshly roasted coffee fill the plazas, grounding the experience in the local pulse.

This experience bridges the raw beauty of the Andean ecosystem with the sophisticated rural life of Salento. It is an invitation to understand Colombia's contemporary environmental consciousness alongside its ancestral crafts. As the town evolves into a global destination, it maintains a deep connection to its roots, offering a window into how tradition and nature coexist in a changing landscape. From Cherry to Cup: Total Immersion in Palestina, Caldas

Start Time: 11:00

Duration: 6 hrs.

Join local growers in the UNESCO-listed mountains of Caldas to experience the daily rhythm of coffee production. Harvest cherries alongside expert farmers, learn traditional techniques, and taste organic specialty coffee at its source in Palestina.

The central Andes of Caldas form part of the UNESCO Coffee Cultural Landscape, a territory where the relationship between people and land is etched into every steep slope. In Palestina, this legacy lives through the hands of local growers who act as stewards of both the soil and the culture. This encounter centers on the human pulse of the coffee trade, moving beyond the typical visit to meet the families whose labor and resilience sustain Colombia's global identity.

Navigate the vibrant green ridges to reach a family-run estate overlooking the valley, where the air carries the scent of damp earth and ripening fruit. After a traditional meal prepared with ingredients from the farm's own soil, the rhythm of the day shifts to the groves. Dressed in the traditional attire of a collector, walk between the rows of bushes to select mature red cherries. The weight of the basket and the precision of the harvest offer a raw, tactile connection to the mountain's bounty and the ancestral knowledge required to tend it.

The journey continues through the transformation of the bean, from the rustic processing areas to the final, aromatic cup. Participating in the jornal—the symbolic payment for a day's labor—grounds the experience in the reality of rural life and the dignity of the craft. It is a moment of deep exchange that reveals coffee as a complex social fabric rather than a simple commodity. As the afternoon light settles over the peaks, the flavor of a freshly brewed organic cup carries the essence of the territory and the stories of those who know it best.

Coffee Farm Experience at Hacienda Venecia

Start Time: 08:30

Duration: 2 hrs. 30 min.

Explore the rhythmic life of a working coffee farm in Manizales. Walk through verdant slopes, trace the bean’s journey from harvest to roast, and refine your palate through a professional tasting of Colombia's finest exports.

Enter the heart of the Coffee Axis at Hacienda Venecia, a historic estate where the legacy of Colombian coffee production remains a living, breathing ritual. Here, the landscape belongs to the mountains, and the air carries the weight of morning mist and drying beans. This is not just a farm; it is a repository of generational knowledge, where the labor of the caficultor shapes the identity of the territory and its people.

Walk through rows of vibrant coffee trees clinging to steep hillsides. The sun warms the dense leaves as you observe the meticulous process of cultivation and the selective picking of ripe cherries. In the processing area, the sound of flowing water and the mechanical rhythm of the pulping machines provide the soundtrack to the bean’s transformation. The raw, earthy aroma of fermenting seeds eventually gives way to the intense, toasted notes of the roasting room, where the chemistry of flavor takes hold.

Engage in a technical tasting that reveals the complexity of the Colombian profile. Compare different roasts and learn to identify the acidity, body, and sweetness that define specific varieties. Moravia’s blooming + lunch with locals + capoeira experience

Start Time: 09:00

Duration: 8 hrs.

Witness the metamorphosis of Moravia from a city landfill into a thriving garden of community resilience. Walk through vibrant streets, engage with grassroots art, and share a meal that honors the Afro-Pacific heritage within Medellín’s urban core.

Moravia stands as a testament to the stubborn resilience of the human spirit in Medellín. Once the city’s open-air landfill, this hillside neighborhood now breathes through terraced gardens and the collective memory of families who literally built their lives from the ground up. The narrow streets vibrate with the pride of a community that transformed a mountain of waste into a landscape of resistance and creative expression, proving that beauty can emerge from the most neglected soil.

Walk along winding paths where the scent of urban gardens mingles with the rhythm of daily life. At the Moravia Cultural Center, the brick architecture of Rogelio Salmona anchors the neighborhood's artistic pulse, providing a textured space for theater, music, and local gathering. The experience deepens with Mangle, a local collective where the fluid, rhythmic motions of capoeira serve as a tool for social cohesion. The sound of the berimbau echoes through the space as young residents claim their territory through movement, discipline, and ancestral rhythm.

Identity takes center stage during a meal prepared by a social enterprise led by women from Colombia’s Pacific coast. The flavors of coconut, cilantro cimarrón, and fresh seafood provide a sensory bridge between the Afro-Colombian heritage and the Andean slopes of Medellín. Supporting these local entrepreneurs reveals the complex, diverse layers of contemporary Colombia, where food, art, and movement become essential acts of empowerment and community survival.

Day 9: Arví & Constelaciones: Cloud Forest, Metrocable and Manrique - Celebration Dinner with Friends at Magolos

Wednesday, November 25, 2026

Arví & Constelaciones: Cloud Forest, Metrocable and Manrique

Start Time: 09:00

Duration: 8 hrs.

One day that climbs from the cloud forest above Medellín down into Manrique, moving the way the city itself moves: on foot, by cable car and by metro.

Medellín is a city you understand better by moving through it the way its people do. This day starts at 9:00 a.m. with a pickup at your hotel and a drive up out of the valley to Santa Elena, the corregimiento of flower growers that sits above the city. You begin on foot at Chorro Clarín, one of the old stone caminos that crosses Parque Arví, where the forest closes in and the noise of Medellín disappears behind you. Your bilingual guide walks the trail with you, reading the landscape: the silleteros who still carry flowers down these paths, the pre-Hispanic roads underneath, the water that feeds the city. The trail comes out at the park's market, where growers from Santa Elena sell what they harvest that morning. From there you board the Metrocable and ride it back toward the city — the forest canopy below you, then the rooftops of Santo Domingo, a descent that shows in ten minutes what took Medellín decades to build. You get off at Santo Domingo station and take a taxi up to UVA La Armonía, one of the public buildings that turned old water tanks into parks and libraries for the hillside neighborhoods.Lunch is served there, traditional and prepared by the same local businesses you will meet next. Then comes Constelaciones, the massive collective mural covering hundreds of homes across Manrique. Your guide here is a changemaker from the neighborhood, not just a narrator: you see a demonstration of traditional games, hear the stories behind the murals told by the people who lived them, and pass the century-old Hydroelectric Museum, a stone structure that holds Medellín's industrial memory. The climb ends at the Ojo de Dios viewpoint (weather permitting), with the Aburrá Valley opening out below, and closes with a snack prepared by local businesses — carimañolas, patacones, guandolo, coffee and desserts. When the walk is done your guide takes you back to Santo Domingo station, where you board the metro and ride it home to your hotel — the same way the neighborhood does it every day. Everything before, during and after is handled, so all you have to do is walk, listen and connect.

Celebration Dinner with Friends at Magolos

Start Time: 20:00

Duration: 2 hrs.

Share a private table in El Poblado where honest dishes and Sebastián's hospitality turn traditional cooking into a celebration. Enjoy a full dinner with shared starters, local main courses and a toast with aguardiente and beer.

In the heart of El Poblado, a small restaurant rejects pretentious sophistication to reclaim the essence of the Colombian home kitchen. Sebastián Yepes, the host and mind behind Magolos, welcomes groups with a clear premise: the food that has always been there — sudado de pollo (braised chicken), beans, the soup of the day — deserves to be celebrated with pride. Here, dinner is not a formal event but a gathering of friends that feels genuine from the moment you walk through the door.

The experience flows through familiar, well-executed flavors. The night opens with a selection of starters to share, followed by a traditional main course that honors the taste of home, and closes with a local dessert. Colombian beer and soft drinks keep the conversation going, while a bottle of aguardiente (one for every four guests) arrives at just the right moment to toast the occasion.

This dinner is a window into the "Colombian Renaissance" in its most honest form. By choosing local ingredients over imported trends, you take part in an act of cultural pride guided by Sebastián, who personally looks after every guest. You end the night having lived a feast that puts well-being, shared time and the dignity of everyday food first, in a lively setting without pretense.
